Since I’m missing their CD release Party at the Doug Fir tonight, I thought I’d post the tail end of the radio show they played Wednesday night at 8pm, on KBOO’s Drinking from Puddles show.
Their MySpace page said 9pm, so I only caught the last two songs and the end of “Pearls and Swine.” Damn freewheeling public-sponsored radio. Still, it was a great snippet, and I’m glad I caught it.
Wish I could have caught it all, but at least this is a manageable chunk of bits. I recorded it off a RadioShack DX-396 patched into my HP Mini 1000 using NCH Recordpad and trimmed the ends with their Wavepad editor.
I called a friend last night and he said he was going to see Unknown Hinson in Greensboro tonight. I said, “Who?” He said to look on YouTube. So I did.
I nearly squealed with redneck glee to discover that this man was the voice of one of my favorite cartoon characters, Early Cuyler on Adult Swim’s Squidbillies. It always seemed to me that whoever voiced that character had spent a lot of time living in it, so this explains it. Another tarheel as well; no surprise.
The guy sure can play guitar, too. How out of it am I that I did not know this?
Thanks to Michael Steele for the phrase; heh. But wow. Thirty-seven people have looked at this blog, far exceeding my wildest expectations. And I haven’t even showed it to my mom!
Well, now that it’s been a full month since my first post, I’d better add another one, especially since my wife was nice enough to link to here. To those who watch the video in the post after that last linked one, don’t worry, the bird is fine. It just has a tendency to pluck at itself manically, and the collar calms it. It just likes to act up for the camera.
I’ve really been suffering from a lack of inspiration lately. Please let me blame my pending state of unemployment for that. I’ve been repacking my parachute, and have found it to be sadly neglected over the past ten years or so.
Since I want to try posting a video myself, here’s one. Warning: it’s definitely not safe for work, small children, or most conservatives.
I discovered Titler on Ben Folds’ Live at Myspace DVD. I love Ben–he’s a fellow tarheel of my generation and his rockin’ stuff rocks far more than his sappier stuff saps. He also has a twisted sense of humor, which explains the Titler interlude in that concert, which also has some other typical Foldsian flourishes. Many of my friends and family are indifferent to Ben’s music, but they mostly like Titler. I can’t imagine why he’s not more popular…
Well that’s a lot of ground to cover in one post; looks like I’m covered for another month. So excuse me; good day; cheese.
I just mothballed my abandoned Blogger blog of the same name, all seven or so posts, since my wife has informed me that Blogger is lame, and that people will think I’m a dumbass if I use it. (Sorry to all those Blogger bloggers whose works I do so enjoy; those are not my words.) Her point is that I need to show a bit more sophistication in a very tight job market for professional communicators. She would really have me blogging on my own domain. First steps first.
I do like the WordPress software. And this theme? So nice.
So to get the ball rolling with some actual content, let me give credit to my inspiration for the name, the great Mr. Chris Onstad, and the final words to his awesome Volvo of Despair series.
